Threshold is a simple Shoot'em up game. You are in control of a spaceship at the bottom of the screen and have to shoot several formations of enemies on the top of the screen. To make things more difficult you have limited time in form of a fuel tank which will get refilled after you cleared a number of waves. Besides that your spacecraft is equipped with a laser that tends to overheat. Every shot make the heat bar of the laser increase a bit. Once it reached its maximum you can't fire anymore and are forced to wait until it cooled down while slowly running out of fuel.

Description from the packaging:

It is a dark age for the Earth Federation.
Our home planet is under attack and our colonies are raided unmercifully. Space travel has become a death wish as more and more enemy ships find their way past the outer defenses and into the paths of friendly trade. Supplies must go through, however, and as the pilot of the Federation fighter Threshold it is your mission to clear the tradeways of the pirating fleets so that supplies may get to the defense bases that protect our world and its colonies from the lawless invaders that roam the galaxy.
